December Kid Picks
December is a big month of fun for us! We have our oldest daughter's birthday, Hanukkah celebrations, and year end family visits (my hubby's family is huge!)...needless to say there are lots of games, fun, food, and gifts! Here are some of our faves from this last month!
If you're not familiar with the local television network "Smile of a Child", well, you should be! It's a fantastic network completely for kids of Faith! Every show is centered around biblical morals and values and it's just all around good, clean, fun! Among some of my Mommy approved favorite shows that air on this channel is "God Rocks". It's a show full of fun, music, and SCRIPTURE! The show takes popular Bible verses and transforms them into fun rock and roll songs that the kids love! And the best part...they have CDs available with all of their songs so you can listen to them again and again...and again...and again! Some of our favorites are "The Fruit of the Spirit Is", "Give the Reason", and "Whatever You Do". Featuring spoofs of Elvis, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and Motown, every song is translated from NIV scriptures and is a cool, fun way for your children to memorize these verses! Check it out!
Every year at Hanukkah, we read this hilarious story about a crazy big family that spends eight wild nights together during the Festival of Lights. It's a fun, rhythmic twist on traditional festivities, and it's always enjoyable to read about a family that's a little crazier than your's. That always makes me feel better! Find it here on Amazon!
We checked this book out at our local library and it quickly became a favorite! Over the 3 week period you're allowed to have a book out, my (almost) 2 year old requested it about a hundred times (give or take a few...) And because it is based off of the popular children's song, "On Top of Spaghetti" was super fun to read and sing! It's a funny rendition of a classic song and story told by a dog with a southern drawl! My kids especially loved when my husband would narrate with his silly impersonations of the characters! We love the Torch Lighter's video series! Geared for children, this series tells the stories of the hero's of our faith in a way that is captivating for our entire family! They pose questions that are easy to answer about the events that occurred in these historical figures' lives and even include special features and documentaries about these individuals. For Hanukkah this year we added one of my favorite heroines to our collection, Corrie ten Boom! A beautiful animation of the trials, tribulations, and tests she had to overcome during the Holocaust and the forgiveness she encourages us all to have! Check it out!
